I’ve been walking along the river regularly and right now it looks superb
Before I tell you about what’s been happening this week I’d like to say a big thankyou to all the people who have contacted me to tell me how much they enjoyed reading the float fishing and pole fishing series over the last few weeks. Judging by the kind comments I reckon there will be a lot of extra fish going into the keepnets over the next few months!I’ve had a hectic time of things recently as I have moved home to live alongside the River Severn in Bewdley. It’s a great location and to get to some good roach fishing will now take me about ten seconds! There are some superb barbel swims nearby too, so as you can imagine I’m really looking forward to June 16th! I’ve been walking along the river regularly and right now it looks superb. Yesterday I went down to the river and threw some casters in which were left from Wednesdays match. Within seconds the shallow water was alive with small chub gobbling up every bit of bait I threw in. I reckon the fish demolished two pints of casters in just ten minutes. Makes you think about what happens with bait you throw in where you can’t see the fish though. The River Severn literally gobbles up bait and I know I’ll be getting through a lot of bait this summer. I wouldn’t go on a match on the Middle Severn without at least a gallon of bait, particularly if I’m after barbel or chub.
On Wednesday I fished a match at Woodlands View fishery and had a great match taking 67.9.0 of carp, on chopped worm initially (on the bottom) then small pieces of luncheon meat fished shallow on the pole at thirteen metres. I was disappointed back in the café afterwards to find I’d been beaten for first place by six ounces. Still, it was a good workout for my “close season” campaign and I’ll be keeping my hand in on these sort of waters until I get back on the Severn.
