rest bite alarm that actually worked in really high winds! The Windy
John is probably the only manufacturer I know who actually tries to put the usefulness of the product first and the profit motive second. Hence he is unlikely to ever get very rich but he is going to continue to be held in the highest esteem by thinking anglers. When John designs a product it is always given a thorough testing first, so when he came up with a rod rest for fishing in high wind conditions, it came as no surprise to me that it really would work.Fishing in high winds presents problems. Few rod rests are built to cope with extreme conditions and unless you have one that does the job, your day can be ruined. John’s Windy-rest is a front rod rest which does ‘exactly what it says on the tin’ (except that it don’t come in tins). I have been using them now for a few years. These rests have held my rods in position though the most appalling gales and the only time they ever failed was once during hurricane conditions. That time the whole bankstick was uprooted and I had to go home as fishing was impossible anyway. It would be a good idea if bite-indicator manufacturers took a leaf out of Johns book. Imagine that, a windy-rest bite alarm that actually worked in really high winds! The Windy-rest comes in fashionable black. That’s my only problem with it. I do a lot of fishing in the hours of darkness and a white, or even better, a glow-in-the-dark finish is the only improvement I could suggest. John – are you reading this?
Cost? Around a couple of quid, that’s for a British made product which is head and shoulders above anything else I’ve tried. Available from any good JR stockist.
