Next week to get things started we will be looking closely at stick floats

For me there is nothing better and more satisfying than seeing a float disappear beneath the surface and then striking into a good fish. I enjoy swimfeeder and leger fishing but there are so many more skills attached to achieve success with float tackle, be it on running line or with a pole. Go into any tackle shop nowadays and you will be faced with a huge array of floats in all manner of sizes and colours. Some are very good but many are there just to attract anglers, it must be said. Having my own tackle company has put me in the position of making available to all anglers, designs of floats which have helped me to be successful over the last twenty years. During that time I have been fortunate enough to have fished lots of different types of waters requiring lots of different types of floats. This experience has enabled me to identify the need for the correct float for a certain situation and these are now available from all leading tackle shops around the country.

Initially we will be looking at running line floats then moving on to pole float designs in a few weeks time. I tend to put running line floats in to two main categories, namely “top and bottom” floats and “bottom end only” floats or wagglers as they are more commonly known. Next week to get things started we will be looking closely at stick floats. I’ve just started my winter River Severn campaign and have already managed to put together some big catches on the “stick”. I’ll tell you more about choosing the correct stick and using it correctly next week.
