Age 40 odd Occupation Community Psychiatric Nurse Crisis Team Homebase Lytham St Annes Lancashire Angling Career Started fishing at the age of 8 in a farm pond in the out back of Suffolk then went on to develop as an all rounder who is just as happy whether fly, coarse or sea fishing. Given the choice I am at my happiest when trotting for barbel with my beloved centerpins or stalking brown trout on the rivers in the North of England with the dry fly. I have for many years taught fly dressing and game fishing in colleges and have also demonstrated the fine art of the Wallis cast at game fairs and other angling events though I am equally capable with either a beachcaster or a pole!. I have been a prolific and capable angler on many venues on both still and running water with a reasonable list of personal best fish. I do not regard myself as an all out specimen hunter but rather as someone who manages to extract the most pleasure out of any day. Writing and Broadcasting Experience Much of this is of fairly recent origin since I discovered the joys of a computer! I contribute to a number of angling sites across the web and to several professional journals. I have over the last few years been a regular angling voice on BBC Radio Lancashire with my fishing partner Martin James. I have developed a reputation of giving careful thought as to what I intend to say, yet not being afraid of saying what has to be said on important issues. Favourite Waters Rivers Ribble, Hodder, Wyre, Lune, Aire Wharfe and Severn Stillwaters Rutland, Blagdon, Stocks ,Windermere and Esthwaite. Tackle More than I would care to own up to!! For rivers: Avon type rods and centerpins are preferred unless feeder fishing For canals pole is the weapon of choice unless spinning or fly fishing for pike River Trouting: a Greys Montana 8′ #5 weight is my first choice. Sea fishing: Beach casters and both multipliers and or fixed spool reels are my favourite tools. Now is the time to admit I have just bought a set of carp tackle!! |
