John Young has been fishing since 1972. He started by drowning maggots for anything that came along but soon donned a floppy green hat and joined the specimen hunting scene. In the late 1970s he started pursuing carp and soon caught his first 20lber on diced potato. Years later, after minimal success, he turned his hand more successfully to big tench and bream, catching them to 10lb and 12lb plus respectively, until in the late 1980s carp fever struck again. These days John spends his fishing time in pursuit of big stillwater carp and big river pike, catching both species to over 30lb. With all coarse species growing bigger, ambitions now include improving his river species personal bests and catching British 40lb specimens of carp, pike and catfish. |
