I can’t wait!

Last weekend I had two days at Earlswood. On Saturday I drew peg 17 on the Windmill Lake and to be honest I didn’t fancy it at all as the favoured area in recent weeks has been the dam wall or the forties. The good thing about bream waters though is that the fish are allowed to swim and you never really know where you want to be at the start. The other good thing about bream fishing is that you are still in the race even if you’re biteless after two hours. On this match I elected to fish about forty metres out with chopped worm and caster in the feeder together with a small amount of the new British Worm Breeders “Worm Dust” which I told you about last week. Groundbait mix was 50/50 Leeda Method feeder and brown crumb, a mix I’ve been having a lot of success with recently. Worm and red maggot or caster on a size 16 Mustad Wide Gape power hook completed the set up. The first bream came after forty-five minutes and another two followed in the next hour. I was getting odd line bites at this stage so I decided to switch to a straight bomb rig. You may recall I spoke about this last week after finishing fourth in a match I feel I could have won. Well, this time it worked a treat and six more good bream gave me a 28.6.0 total and first place. Next day I drew peg 56, at the end of the dam wall but my 15.6.0 return won me nothing. There were good weights all over the place though with forty-seven pounds of bream winning and lots of good backing weights. On Tuesday I did a magazine feature at Furnace Mill fishery, just outside Bewdley. It’s a smashing complex with lots of fish to go for. I caught ghost carp, mirror carp, common carp, chub, rudd, roach and perch on pole and waggler and really enjoyed the day. Next day, another magazine feature, this time back at Earlswood, this time on peg 48 on the dam wall. Ten bream in three hours all on the same method as I’d used on peg 17 was the result. Another interesting days fishing. This weekend it’s another double header at Earlswood then it’s all systems go for the river season next week. The Severn is looking really good at present with a lot of fish showing. Providing we don’t get too much rain this week it should be a bumper start to the season.

I can’t wait!
