How wrong can one be
During the winter months something like ten tonnes of bream were taken out of the Engine House lake and put into the Yacht Lake. Now when you consider that the “yachter” already had a very big head of bream in it you can get some idea of just how many bream are there now (mind you, you wouldn’t have thought so on my peg on Saturday… more of that in a bit). Once the Engine Lake was netted British Waterways then re-stocked with thousands of small carp, with a view I reckon, to turn the lake into another “Drayton”.
Now as the Engine lake hasn’t been stocked long I went on record recently saying that I thought it would take a long while before the carp started to show in numbers and weights were high. How wrong can one be! Last weekend the place went daft with several weights over one hundred pounds taken on all sorts of methods. Top weight over the weekend was in excess of 175lbs and this was made up of over one hundred and forty carp. I think I’ll make a new prediction now and that is it won’t be long until we start to see match weights over two hundred pounds from here! Best method at present is long pole with maggot, caster, corn, meat and pellets doing the business. My own weekend on the Yacht Lake was far less hectic. On Saturday I really struggled for bites at peg 33 but on Sunday I won my section with 20.11.0 of bream from peg 43. I enjoyed Sundays match and caught all my fish on worm hookbait with chopped worm and caster in the feeder. I tried the new British Worm Breeders “Worm Dust” for the first time on Sunday and was well impressed with it after adding it to my chopped worm and caster mix. I know several anglers who have been using the product with success recently and there is a lot you can do with it. It’s possible to mix it to your groundbait or add to casters slightly wetted. You can use it as a paste or mix it for boilies. In fact there are so many different ways of using “Worm Dust” that I shall be experimenting a lot in the coming weeks. Full marks to Louise Clarke at British Worm Breeders for coming up with such a brilliant product. Before long any angler not using “Worm Dust” will be at a disadvantage in my opinion. Not long to go now before the big kick off on the rivers and I can’t wait. The Severn is looking superb right now with lots of fish, small and large showing. I’m intending to have an early start on the 16th June to do battle with the Severn barbel. The night before I’m on Sky Sports “Tightlines” programme so tune in as it’s the first of a new series.
This weekend I’m off to Earlswood again on Sunday. Saturday looks like being a work at home day as I’ve still got a lot to do with my new place. I love living in the Severn valley though and can’t wait for the summer!
