Donegal in October is wet
Donegal in October is wet. There is no mistaking this fact. It is also cold, especially in August and September on a fly-bridge, huddled in a wet flotation suit. Days when the sun feels warm are few, and days when there is no water on the fly-bridge (whether salt or fresh) are fewer still. But, somewhat unbelievably, there are bluefin tuna here. On some days in some numbers, on other days none. The birds are the key, and the sight of a gannet plummeting into the cold green water is welcome and brings a racing pulse and warmth.
