Knockferry Lodge

Knockferry Lodge is situated right on the southwestern shore of Lough Corrib, at over 44,000 acres (18,000 hectares) surface area it is the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland.

We are 13 Miles (20 kilometres) from the city of Galway between Galway and the wild and rugged beauty of the Connemara landscape.
Knockferry lodge was built in the mid 19th century as a fishing and hunting Lodge by the Martins of Ross. It has had quite a colourful history, and consequently has a lot of charm and character. After a hard days fishing the lodge provides a haven of peace and relaxation. There are three lounge rooms, two with open turf fires that help to create the relaxed ambience that Knockferry Lodge is famous for and a third that enjoys a panoramic view of Lough Corrib, with dry stone walled fields running down to the shore. For more details please check the home page on our website. Lough Corrib has a worldwide reputation as one of the premier brown trout fisheries. The Trout season opens on the 15th February and extends through to the end of September. As the season progresses various methods of fishing are found to be the most successful, from Trolling the natural “Brikeen” or minnow to dapping with the Mayfly or daddy long legs. If you wish, our Gillies will tell you which is the appropriate method for the season in which you plan to visit. He can also instruct you in the particular technique.Whilst at Knockferry Lodge not only can you fish the Corrib, but the Lakes of Moycullen are also close by. The Moycullen Lakes are a course fisherman’s dream, as well as being full of Bream, Perch Roach, hybrids and Pike. They are relatively unknown in comparison to some of the other Course Fisheries in Ireland and so provide an excellent day’s fishing. The biggest of the Moycullen lakes is the Ross Lake. We have a boat moored on the lake all season for the convenience of our clients. We also have boats moored at the Lodge it self and at the quay in Oughterard thus providing the angler with a number of options.
