SEAWEEK: Filleting Glove – RUSS SYMONS

Russ Symons has been an angling Photographer/Writer for over thirty years, the last twelve of which, writing about and photographing the sea and its fish being his full time occupation. Progressing from a black and white darkroom in the attic of his Plymouth home, to the exacting colour requirements of todayís highly professional angling press, the evolution of electronic imagery is the latest challenge in his quest to bring the best of angling images and words to the pages and screens of anglers from around the world. Often, to get the fish necessary to make an article or photograph, he has had to catch the fish himself, resulting in two I.G.F.A World Records for Pollack and the first Gold Medal for a Conger Eel over 80 pounds ever awarded by the British Conger Club. Other European Line Class Records for Ling, Plaice, Blue Shark all hang on his office wall as a testimony to the sea time he has put in. A Westcountryman through and through, it would be wrong to write a reprise of Russís angling career like this without mentioning the fact that Fly fishing for Trout(and Bass, Pollack, Mullet and anything else with scales on its back) is the fishing which has run in parallel with his Sea fishing. When it has been too rough to go deep, a #5 weight fly rod on one of Dartmoorís streams or stillwaters has kept him fishing and his cameraís clicking.
