Wednesdays midweek Bewdley open saw me draw peg 31, a peg known to locals as “The feeder gobbler” and now I know why having lost eight swimfeeders and around fifteen hooks throughout the match! In between losing tackle I did manage to catch 14.4.0 of small barbel to win the section. On Saturday I had a really frustrating day at Knowle Sands on the Severn Champs. Fishing with strong waggler tackle, five pound main line direct to a size 12 hook I landed four barbel for eighteen pounds but lost another five along the way which would have won me a major prize if I had landed them. I think the fish were foulhooked to be honest but three of them I got to within almost netting distance before the hook pulled free. It was one of those days when if I’d got a cat it would definitely have been kicked when I got home. I hate losing fish anytime but on this match of all matches. One day I will win that title, mark my words! On Sunday I competed in the B.A.A Open and again drew Knowle Sands, this time peg two. Two barbel, one on the waggler and one on the feeder was the sum total of my day, enough said. My mate Mark Jones won this match with sixty-six pounds of barbel from a peg at the bottom end of the same section. The river is in desperate need of rain again as it’s gone really clear and very low. Hopefully we’ll get some in the next few days.
